Knots or Slubs - The entire dye lot will be downgraded to seconds when any appear.  You may get a skein that doesn't have any imperfections or a skein with several.   Slubs are pretty easy to deal with,  You can pull and spin a little to even out or treat like you would if you encountered a knot, color change or end of skein.
