This natural white wool has been treated to prevent it from shrinking or felting. Can be Machine Washed gentle cycle after spun into yarn.
Superwash is wool treated with a chemical process to enhance its properties, making it smoother, stronger, and easier to wash. The process involves removing the natural scales from the wool fibers and may include adding a thin polymer coating. This results in a yarn that is less itchy, machine washable, and a smooth sheen.
If hand dyeing handle unspun wool top gently. Once wet tends to separate easily. Hint: Lingerie mesh bags are very helpful.

Wool has been scoured or washed to remove most of the dirt and oils. No harsh chemicals are used, so expect small pieces of vegetation and a bit of lanolin. The process of hand dyeing, which includes very hot water, washes and rinses will remove remaining soil.
If you plan to use as stuffing or un-dyed recommend additional wash to remove last of the dirt and oil.

These locks are not combed or super clean. I don’t use commercial chemicals, yuk! or excessive hot water.
Depending on your use you may want to give the locks an additional wash.
Add shampoo (or wool wash if handy) to water as hot as your water heater can do in a sink or wash tub, wear gloves to protect your hands, hold the cut ends, and give it a gentle swirl. Allow it to soak, but remove before the water cools. Gently Rinse with warm water. If you want brushed, suggest using a flick carder on dried wool. Start combing by tapping from the lock end. Hold the cut end. A smooth cloth on your lap is recommended. Work your way up the lock. Lock may become fluffy. Still holding cut end, dip into warm water with hair conditioner added. Squeeze out water, lay out flat on towels to air dry.

This mohair has been scoured or washed to remove most of the dirt and oils on the hair. No harsh chemicals are used, so expect small pieces of vegetation and natural oil. This is what we use for our hand dyed mohair locks. The process of hand dyeing, which includes very hot water, washes and rinses removes remaining soil. If you plan to use as stuffing or un-dyed recommend additional wash to remove last of the dirt and oil.
Young Adult or Adult Mohair grade fibers. Young Adult is whiter, finer and curlier compared to adult grade. Fiber length is approximately 6 inches.
Long adult locks. Fiber length is approx. 7-8 inches.
If you are wanting the beautiful white fibers used in Santa beards and locks, this isn’t what you want as it will require a lot more cleaning and brushing since the locks are messed up by handling. Recommend Select Locks, combed top or roving. See links below.

Hand Dyed or Natural White
Kid - Yearling grade mohair. Ideal for doll crafting, handspinning into tail spun yarn or embellishing Needle Felt, Knit or crochet in a boa scarf or fur trim.
Carefully handwashed then hand dyed. (Shades are labeled according to the name of the dye) Exception: Natural color: white, black and brown are not dyed.
Normal Lock length aprox 5-6". Long Locks see image for length.
These locks are not combed. Depending on your use you may want to hand comb, suggest using a flick carder. Start combing by tapping from the lock end. Hold the cut end when combing. Lock will become fluffy. Still holding cut end, dip into warm water with hair conditioner added. Squeeze out water, lay out to air dry. This method also works for those that require extremely clean hair.
Hand processed without harsh chemicals. You may find small pieces of vegetation &/or a light coating of natural oils still left on the fibers. Expect some color variation in shade.
Dyed shades, color indicated bt the name of the dye. Images are the actual fibers being offered.
Extra Long locks are not commonly available. The natural white locks are ready for hand-dyeing which with the process will remove most of the remaining oils and dirt. Depending on your purpose you may need to give it another hand wash. Hold the cut end and swish in a bowl of warm-hot soapy water (shampoo you use on your hair works) rinse and lay flat to dry. Approximate length -8 inches.
Crimpy Mohair Locks This is not as smooth hair I normally see in mohair fleeces,

This fiber is prepared into a wool top. The fibers are combed in one direction. Perfect if handspinning worsted yarns, by spinning off the end, keeping your fibers parallel. Can be easily spun into a semi worsted (lofty woolen type) yarn over the fold or side of the preparation. Excellent fiber for blending colors or exotic fibers like angora, silk, kid mohair, cashmere, alpaca… If re-carded, drum or hand cards, will produce a roving for woolen spinning.
